05.05.2015 Everywhere the bourgeois pundits ask how it came to this. Reporters who maintained cold skepticism in the face of dead bodies gape in astonishment at the spectacle of a burning convenience store. The politicians preach non-violence as they send in an occupying army. All of them pose the same question; how can we restore the peace?
01.05.2015 We, the Youth of the Partido de los Trabajadores Socialistas (Socialist Workers’ Party) in Argentina, raise our voices with you, the youth in the streets of Baltimore, just we have with youth of Ferguson and many other cities across the U.S. We stand in solidarity with all the young people fighting against the brutality of the cops that is killing black people in US, and which is practiced against youth throughout the world.
01.05.2015 On May 1, demonstrations will take place in cities across the U.S. calling for justice for Freddie Gray and all of the countless black youth who have died at the hands of the police in recent years. The movement, which was launched under the rallying cry of Black Lives Matter, will hold protests in Baltimore, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Seattle, Chicago, and several other cities. Dockworkers in Oakland will shut down the ports in solidarity with the movement.
25.04.2015 There is a new feeling in Baltimore, where once deserted streets are now filled with protestors who call for “Justice for Freddie Gray.”
While demonstrations have been peaceful, the protestors’ outrage is palpable, shown by the growing number of participants–swelling at times to the thousands–and unrelenting protests held every day and night since Freddie Gray’s death was announced on April 19th.
13.03.2015 The statement of the US President, Barack Obama, that Venezuela is a "threat to the safety of the United States," is a leap in the aggressive actions by imperialism against the Latin American country.
09.03.2015 Governor Scott Walker is poised to sign into law the anti-union "Right to Work" legislation in Wisconsin, making it the 25th state to do so. The union bureaucracy has so far refused to call for general strike in the state to fight back against the law.
20.02.2015 The dispute over immigration reform and the obstructionism of the Republicans against the timid concessions offered by Obama produce the illusion of a dispute between antagonistic forces. A closer look reveals that, despite differing in tactics and in discourse in order to appeal to their respective electoral bases, the two parties defend similar interests.
30.11.2014 This Friday, known as Black Friday in the U.S., workers at over 1,600 Walmart stores across the country organized protests against poverty-level wages and union busting practices at the massive retail store.
25.11.2014 The November 4 midterm elections gave the Republicans an even more overwhelming victory than the opinion polls predicted. The Republican Party increased its power in the House of Representatives, got the majority in the Senate and kept several governorships. It even managed to re-elect the Governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker, who imposed profoundly anti-worker and anti-union legislation.
24.08.2014 The murder of the young African-American Michael Brown, at the hands of the Ferguson city police, less than two weeks ago, has again ignited anger in the US against racial oppression, which has caused thousands to get mobilized throughout the country.
The response to the anger unleashed by the death of this young man, who was unarmed, has been repression. As time passes, more information about his death and the increasingly brutal police violence is being made known.
18.08.2014 While President Obama is enjoying his vacation, US airplanes and drones are again dropping tons of bombs on Iraq. This new military venture of the United States in the Middle East began on Friday, August 8 and has as an objective: stopping the advance of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or just Islamic State, that, since June, has occupied about one third of the territory of Syria and a fourth of that of Iraq.
According to Obama, what motivates these bombings is protecting Christian groups and those of the Yazidi minority (a group of the population that professes a different religion), savagely persecuted by the ISIL, this new "Frankenstein", that emerged from a detachment of the Al Qaeda network during the US occupation of Iraq.
15.08.2014 After 4 days of protests, dozens of arrests and two people wounded by the police (one of them in critical condition), anger continues on the streets of Ferguson, a small place in the state of Missouri. "No justice, no peace," "Hands up, don't shoot," "Where is Mike? Everywhere!" are some of the slogans of the mobilizations and protests unleashed by the murder of Mike Brown.
On Saturday, August 9, in the city of Ferguson (Missouri, US), a cop murdered the African American teenager Mike Brown, 18 years old. The police stated at the beginning that Brown had attacked the police officer, but all the witnesses claim that the young man was unarmed, and they shot him when he had his hands in the air (an obvious sign to show that one is unarmed). Mike had recently finished high school and was getting ready to enter university the following Monday.
09.07.2014 Thomas Piketty's book Capital in the 21st Century has reached second place on the Amazon bestsellers list, and third on the The New York Times' list. According to The Guardian “Carrying it under your arm has, in certain latitudes of Manhattan, become the newest tool for making a social connection among young progressives.” The book that some consider the counterpart of the Fukuyama “moment” that took place more than a decade ago, and which is suggestively known just as “Capital” in the US, has generated an overwhelming variety of reviews from every position of economic theory. In the context of the ideological emptiness in bourgeois theory created by the Great Recession, it is by no means coincidence that Piketty's book, which focuses on the dynamics of inequality in the capitalist economy, has become a significant political event, especially in Anglo-Saxon countries, and particularly in the US.
14.02.2014 During the first days of 2014, Obamacare was put into effect, the hard-promoted health care reform, pushed by US President Barack Obama since his first presidential campaign. Beyond its difficulties in implementation something is certain: the reform was designed to the measure of the big corporations.
16.12.2013 In the early hours of November 24, the agreement between Iran and the so-called "P5 + 1" group (the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, the United States, Great Britain, France, China and Russia, plus Germany) was announced in Geneva.
09.11.2013 The Obama administration constantly adds problems and contradictions, domestically and internationally. The government's paralysis, for lack of a budget, that lasted for 17 days and kept the country (and the world) waiting, facing the risk that the main power on the planet would go into default, followed the blow that not being able to carry out his threats to intervene in Syria militarily, after its use of chemical weapons, and having to accept the Russian plan of negotiation with Al Assad, signified. Now, without a break, a great quantity of data about the massive espionage that the US carries out, not against countries that "promote terrorism," but against its own "friendly" great powers, like Germany, France, Spain and Italy, has again come to light.
25.10.2013 A scene that is beginning to be repeated: During a countdown, on the verge of taking the US to a default, because of reaching the legally allowed upper limit of issuing debt, Democrats and Republicans arrive at a precarious agreement that kicks the discussion on the debt ceiling up to February 7.
08.10.2013 On October 1, the US federal government had to close a large part of its offices, for lack of funds to operate, after the House of Representatives of the Congress, where the Republican Party has a majority, rejected the budget for the current fiscal year and refused to approve even temporary resolutions, that would allow continuing with line items of the Budget.
02.10.2013 After the government shutdown, more than 800,000 federal workers are immediately furloughed and over a million more will work without pay. Offices that provide important social services and National Parks and museums will be closed. Depending on its duration, the shutdown could cost billions to the US economy.
27.09.2012 The first teachers’ strike in 25 years in the city of Chicago began on September 10. More than 25,000 female and male teachers and school personnel went out to the street and maintained the strike for 9 days...
06.12.2010 Once again, the vulnerability of state secrets and the divisions, not only between Democrats and Republicans, but also among the upper echelons of political and military power themselves, as happened with the documents about Afghanistan and Iraq.
08.11.2010 The big Republican victory shows a big political setback for Barack Obama's administration, rather than the strength of the Republicans. The White House was expecting the "backlash" from the population, that is suffering the consequences of the biggest economic crisis since the 1930 recession.
27.07.2010 The White House is responding to Governor Jan Brewer's law and to the intensification of activity by racist and xenophobic groups with ... an unenthusiastic lawsuit. This is how Obama plans to confront a law that social, political and human rights organizations are already condemning as the institutionalization of racism!
08.07.2010 Military penetration of the country only corresponds to the US plans of militarization (led by Obama), the aim of which is put what they consider their backyard under complete control, before possible social upheavals, while they continue taking positions in alliance with, and with the complete backing of the local governments.
27.05.2010 For the first ten days, the big media kept quiet about the facts. Now, when the spill has become the worst ecological crisis in history, the atrocity that capitalist businessmen and the United States political regime committed has begun to come out.
17.04.2010 Argentina's position against the Iranian regime explains, in part, the 15 minutes Obama gave Cristina [President of Argentina]. The Summit organized by imperialism discussed the alleged threat that nuclear weapons will fall into the hands of terrorist organizations, in order to cover up an obvious fact, that the main nuclear danger for humanity are the enormous nuclear arsenals that the United States and Russia possess, besides the smaller arsenals that France and Great Britain have.
10.02.2010 Os February 1, US President Barack Obama announced the year 2011 budget, that will be sent to Congress. The figures show that the US economy is in the red. These enormous sums of money will be used essentially for financing imperialist wars and paying interest on the government debt, that amounts to $12 billion.
09.09.2009 The Unasur Summit showed that the best situation for the local bourgeoisie is to try and maintain regional stability, given that the preceding years of economic recuperation has reactivated trade between countries within the region and despite the international crisis trade has continued.
