  • United States - Iran

What the agreement between the US and Iran means

13.04.2015 This is a big step for the strategy of Obama's administration, that needs the cooperation of the Iranian regime to fight the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria and the Taliban in Afghanistan.

  • Greece: Campaign for the cancellation of debt and opposition to austerity plans

18.02.2015 The "troika" of the European Commission, European Central Bank and the IMF are putting pressure on the government of Greece, threatening to switch off their funding so that the Greek government submits to the "troika’s" programs of debt repayment and structural adjustment. These programs, with the complicity of the Greek bourgeoisie, have plunged the country into misery. In the face of this blackmail, it is necessary to organize the broadest international solidarity with the workers and people of Greece. What is needed is a campaign for the cancellation of debt and of opposition to these austerity plans.

  • Republican Party victory in the United States

    The end of "Obama mania"

25.11.2014 The November 4 midterm elections gave the Republicans an even more overwhelming victory than the opinion polls predicted. The Republican Party increased its power in the House of Representatives, got the majority in the Senate and kept several governorships. It even managed to re-elect the Governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker, who imposed profoundly anti-worker and anti-union legislation.

  • State of Israel

The Third Intifada is developing in Jerusalem

31.10.2014 Jerusalem has turned into one of the key settings of the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. The summary execution of a young Palestinian and the subsequent decision of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to close access to the Esplanade of the Mosques, are only the most recent expressions from an extensive history of violence and oppression by the State of Israel. During the week that is coming to an end, Jerusalem was a setting of an escalation of tensions and confrontations.

  • United States: One step closer to war

11.09.2014 At press time for this edition, US President Barack Obama presented his military strategy for dealing with the militias of the Islamic State (ISIL) in Iraq and Syria.

  • Iraq: The United States’ endless war

18.08.2014 While President Obama is enjoying his vacation, US airplanes and drones are again dropping tons of bombs on Iraq. This new military venture of the United States in the Middle East began on Friday, August 8 and has as an objective: stopping the advance of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or just Islamic State, that, since June, has occupied about one third of the territory of Syria and a fourth of that of Iraq. According to Obama, what motivates these bombings is protecting Christian groups and those of the Yazidi minority (a group of the population that professes a different religion), savagely persecuted by the ISIL, this new "Frankenstein", that emerged from a detachment of the Al Qaeda network during the US occupation of Iraq.

  • Towards the partition of Ukraine?

20.03.2014 The dispute between the imperialist powers and Russia over defining the destiny of Ukraine, took a new jump with the annexation of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol – the base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet – to the Russian Federation, after 97% of the population of this strategic peninsula, with a Russian-speaking majority, an autonomous Republic of Ukraine since 1954, voted to return to Russia.

  • Ukraine: The dispute between Russia and the imperialist powers

06.03.2014 In the last week, Ukraine has turned into a battlefield for what many analysts are already calling a "new cold war" between the United States (and the European Union), on the one hand, and Russia, on the other, where there are big economic and geopolitical interests in play.

  • An agreement between the United States and Iran: United by fear?

16.12.2013 In the early hours of November 24, the agreement between Iran and the so-called "P5 + 1" group (the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, the United States, Great Britain, France, China and Russia, plus Germany) was announced in Geneva.

  • Crisis in the center of world imperialism

The government of the United States, brought to a standstill

08.10.2013 On October 1, the US federal government had to close a large part of its offices, for lack of funds to operate, after the House of Representatives of the Congress, where the Republican Party has a majority, rejected the budget for the current fiscal year and refused to approve even temporary resolutions, that would allow continuing with line items of the Budget.

  • The crisis in Syria and the limits of US power

14.09.2013 In just two weeks, the US government went from announcing an imminent and unilateral military attack on Syria as a reprisal for the alleged use of chemical weapons by Assad's regime, to accepting a "diplomatic solution" proposed by Russia – Assad's main international ally – that would consist of the Syrian government's handing over its stocks of chemical weapons to international organizations for their destruction, under supervision of the UN.

Egypt: The army is trying to hijack the mass protests

07.07.2013 Powerful mass demonstrations sealed the destiny of the Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi who was toppled on July 3 by the army in a ‘soft coup’ supported by the wide spectrum of opposition to the Muslim Brotherhood government.

“The people want the regime to fall”

12.12.2012 The old slogan, that hundreds of thousands were shouting against the Mubarak dictatorship at the beginning of 2011, is again resounding with all its force in the streets of Cairo and the main cities of Egypt, this time directed against the government of M. Morsi and the Freedom and Justice Party...

Act Two of the revolutionary process

29.11.2011 The brutal police repression against a small group of demonstrators in Tahrir Square on November 19 was the detonator of an impressive popular mobilization that was increasing in numbers and radicalization as time passed.
